For year 2009 the Rooyesh cultural Society plans for series of workshops with a verity of topics. Our workshops are biweekly on Fridays. We invite everyone interested of practicing democracy within the framework of our Iranian migrant lives, to attend. We also welcome English speaking individuals who like to interact with our Farsi speaking group.
Jan 2: We looked at our New Year resolution and what we plan to do.
Jan 16: We had Mr Masoud Soheili who talked for us about the history of photography in Iran.
Jan 30 and Jan 31: Two days workshop about “Our work and our responsibility for a clean environment.
Feb 13, 2009: Listening to Mrs Talebi, a researcher and writer who wants to speak about Ferdowsi and Shahnameh (The Epic of the Kings).

FALL TRAINING ANNOUNCEMENT
Please distribute the following information as appropriate:
Twice per year the BC Society for Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse provides training for individuals who come across male survivors of sexual abuse in their work. The fall training is coming up November 14th & 15th, 2008, for the spring 2009, see our website.
This two day workshop is designed for a variety of helping professionals. It is aimed at those who do not specialize in working with adult male survivors, but who have encountered, or who expect to encounter, adult males with sexual abuse in their backgrounds. The two day format will provide participants with an understanding of the special issues of males who were sexually abused as children or sexually assaulted as adults. It will equip them not to work in depth with male survivors, but rather to provide initial support that is informed, empowering, and sensitive as well as to make referrals as appropriate.

Ideas are taken from the: John Gottman Sound Marital House theory which is close to the Persian cultures definitions of marriage. As the first session was more about the pathology of marriage, this session will focus more on how to create and rebuild a healthy relationship between two couples and a happier marriage. Community building and practicing democracy is the main idea behind all of our topics.

Iranian Women Cultural Society: This is a new society, formed as a grass root community required activity. In past three years, a group of Iranian women on North Shore started to meet every month in order to socialize and break the isolation. The group soon become a meeting point for women who came from all over greater Vancouver. Every month one of the ladies becomes host for the group and the meetings take form in a home environment setting. Sharing information about music and art, poetry, and literature are the type of activities that the group engages in. Community building and participation are two main goals of these women getting together. This society is a non political and a non-religious place where women from all ages, all walks of life, all ethnical groups and religious beliefs are welcome.

Confidentiality: All participants will sign a confidentiality form, allowing everyone to feel free and to be encouraged to discuss life situations without hesitation or worry. For those 15 to18, parent’s permission is required. We value safety and respect individual’s integrity. In another word, what is discussed there stays there.
In addition many topics will be presented and the group has a say in what other topics to be added. We together decide what guidelines to follow and how to make the space safe as possible: For everyone. This is a closed group format meaning we make a group of 8-10 students for a whole round of the program.
